Two hundred one went missing, and 59 persons extrajudicially killed in Balochistan.

London: July 16, 2022

Baloch Human Rights Council released the verified list of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan during the first half of this year. From January to June 2022, 201 persons became the victims of enforced disappearances. In addition, security forces tortured and extra-judicially killed 59, and their mutilated bodies were discovered in various districts of Balochistan. Moreover, in June 2022, 55 mutilated bodies were found in Lahore and are believed to be the missing persons from Balochistan. BHRC has verified these figures from different sources and the victims’ relatives.

 Frontier corps abducted Doulat, son of Hassan, from village Hironk, District Kech.

Saraj Baloch, son of Saleh, was killed by shooters affiliated with security forces in Buleda District Kech.

January 3, 2022

Abdurrahman, son of Murad, was abducted by gunmen belonging to security forces in District Panjgur.

On the same day, security forces abducted two brothers, Sattar, son of Amir Bux and Mumtaz, son of Amir Bux, from District Panjgur.

On the same day, the security forces picked Sajid, son of Abid of village Kunshkalat, District Kech.

Khan Muhammad Marri from District Kohlu disclosed to the media that eight family members are being kept in a personal prison of provincial minister Abdurrahman Khetran.  He named them as Farzana, Abdul Sattar, Abdul Ghaffar, Muhummad Umran, Muhammad Nawaz, Abdul Majid, and Abdul Qadir.

Security forces abducted two persons from a hospital in District Naseerabad. The names of the abducted are Kalandar, son of Lolha Bugti and Marshala, son of Aziz Bugti.

January 7, 2022

Security forces abducted a young person Ahmad Mullazai, son of Muhammad Ashraf Mullahzai, from District Kharan.

On the same day (January 7, 2022), Mahmud, son of Rahmat, was picked up by unknown persons affiliated with the security forces from District Panjgur.

January 8, 2022

Two mutilated bodies were recovered from the Quetta and Zhob districts of Balochistan. The local believe that the dumping of bodies are part of the kill and dump policy of the army’s death squads operating in conjunction with security forces.

Usman Son of Liaqat from Mand, District Kech, was taken away by the security forces.

Unknown persons abducted three-person from Hingol and District Kech. The abducted were named Bahad, son of Yaakoob, Mia Sabzal and Ilyas.

Two dead bodies were found in Hub, District Bela. The dead bodies are believed to be of missing persons and part of the kill and dump policy of the Pakistani army in Balochistan.

January 13, 2022

Security forces abducted seven persons from Panjgur and Kech districts. They are named as Yusuf son of Haji Akber, Haji Washdil, Muhammad Shuab, Muhammad Munir, Shakeel Ahmad and Hamoodi son of Naseer Ahmad.

An older man named Ibrahim, son of Ghulam Muhammad of village Pirandar, District Awaran, was picked up by security personnel.

January 14, 2022

Hafiz, son of Abdul Qadir, was abducted by people known to be affiliated with the security agencies From Chitkan village of District Panjgur.

On the same day, four persons, namely Bilal, son of Inayat Ullah; Jahanzeb, son of Musa; Didag, son of Attaullah; and Obaid, son of Wazir, were abducted by security agencies.

Two mutilated dead bodies of unidentified persons were recovered from Hub, District Bela. Generally, these bodies in the past were recognized by relatives of the missing persons as their loved ones.

The disappearance of four persons has been reported in the Kech District. Persons who disappeared were named Riaz, son of Fateh Muhammad, Nisar, son of Fateh Muhammad, and Mudi, son of Kahoda Sohrab and Bashshaam.

January 21, 2022

The disappearance of Abul Hasan, son of yar Muhammad, an older person, has been reported. Security forces arrested him during the raid in the surrounding areas of Turbat, District Kech.

January 22, 2022

Mujiburrehman, a schoolteacher, went missing after being abducted by unidentified persons believed to be security personnel from the Shahrag area of northern Balochistan.

January 23, 2022

The dead body of Niamatullah, son of Arz Muhammad, was found in the Kadkoocha, district Mastung. The security agencies picked him up on January 17.

January 24, 2022

Six persons have been picked up and made disappear by the security agencies in Kech and Awaran districts. Forcefully disappeared persons were named Mahboob, son of Sheran; Salim, son of Wali Dad; Sudhir, son of Ali Bakhsh; Nadim, son of Salim; Dad Rahman, son of Abdul Rahman and Karim Bakhsh, son of Wajo.

Security forces picked up two persons from District Kech on January 31, 2022, and their whereabouts are still unknown. Two disappeared persons were named Ismail Aftab and Saeedullah from Tehsil Mand of the district.

Security forces killed one person from the Panjgur district on February 2, 2022. The deceased was named Ihtesham, son of Master Ghulam Sarwar. 

February 4, 2022

A local death squad affiliated with the Interservice Intelligence agency (ISI) picked up Altaf, son of Jadan, from Tejaban village of District Kech last night. His mutilated body was discovered today.

February 5, 2022

Security forces picked up two persons from Kili Jamaldini of Nushki District, and their whereabouts are still unknown.

Three persons from Sibi districts who became the victims of enforced disappearance were named Hayat, son of Zangi, Atoor Gorgeij and Hashim Domki. The mutilated body of Hashim Domki was later found in the Mach region of Bolan District.

Security forces abducted Muhammad Khan, son of Nabi Bakhsh Bugti, from Dera Murad Jamali in another incident.

The security agencies also picked up social worker Nadeen Hasrat from the Kech district, keeping him in an unknown location.

Security forces raided a house in Mengal Street Quetta and picked up Haroon, son of Haji Nisar Ahmed. His whereabouts are unknown.

February 7, 2022

Security forces abducted social activist Malik Miran from Panjgur District, Balochistan. But, according to his brother, security agencies are not informing the family where he is being kept. He was released after a month of protest by the local population.

February 9, 2022

Yahya Raees, son of Haji Maqbool Ahmed from Bonistan village of Panjgur District, became the victim of enforced disappearances when security forces picked him up. Meanwhile, Muhammad Hashim from Sui, Dera Bugti District, and Naeem from Gokdan Kech District were picked up and made disappear by the security forces on the same day.

Members of the death squad affiliated with the security forces of Pakistan harassed a social gathering of the Christian community in Hub, Bela District of Balochistan. First, they beat up many wedding ceremony participants injuring many, including children and women. Then, they left the site after firing in the air for many minutes.

Artist Mansoor Anwer from Gramkan village of Panjgur was picked up by the security forces and transferred to an unknown location. His family is not being informed about his whereabouts.

The security forces arrested the Kalat Teachers Association district president, Kefayatullah Langau, whose whereabouts are still unknown. On the same day, two persons became the victim of enforced disappearances in the Dera Murad Jamali district. They were named as Bakhtiar son of Hamza and Sahib son of Hamza.

Two minors named Saud Sarpara and Sudish Nisar became the latest victims of enforced disappearances from the same family in Faizabad, Quetta District. Farhad Sarpara and Saqib Sarpara from the same family have already been picked up by the security forces early this month.

In another incident, Nazeer Ahmed, son of Noor Muhammad, was picked up by the army-affiliated death squad members from Khuzdar District.

From different parts of Balochistan, three unidentified and mutilated bodies were recovered, believed to be the victims of enforced disappearances.

Muhammad Ali, son of Dinar from Tirteij, Awaran District, was arrested by the security forces on February 11 and was tortured to death.

February 17, 2022

The death squad members picked up Yasir, son of Nasser and Wajoo, son of Mazar, from Huzzai Mand, District Kech, and their whereabouts are still unknown.

The mutilated body of an unidentified person was recovered from Eastern Bypass, Quetta District. These unknown or unidentified bodies are believed to be the victims of the phenomenon of enforced disappearances.

Mullah Sadal, son of Ali of Awaran district, was killed by the death squad members affiliated with the Pakistani army in Windar, district Lasbela, Balochistan. The army had killed his cousins Siraj, son of Ahmad and Khaliqdad, son of Ahmad, on October 6, 2016. The same squad also killed another relative, Moosa, son of Nazar Muhammad, on June 18, 2016.

Armed persons believed to be members of a death squad forcefully abducted a peon of Turbat University. Mr Shaiq Ahmad, a resident of Shapuk, district Kech became the latest victim of enforced disappearance in March.

Locals claim that at least a dozen persons have been killed by drone attacks in the Kech District of Balochistan, while the military claims that these persons were armed insurgents.

The mutilated dead body of Abdul Malik, son of Nazeer, a resident of Buleda, district Kech was founded. The security forces abducted him on February 26, 2022.

After raiding his house, the security forces abducted Seth Noor Bakhsh, son of Bahram, from the village Segak, district Kech.

 In another incident, the security forces picked up a resident of Babu Mahella, Kharan, Shah Fahad, son of Patwari Mahmood Khan. However, his family is not aware of his whereabouts.

In another incident, a resident of Balgatar, district Kech, Dr Hashim Noor, was kidnapped by the members of a death squad operating in the area.

From Turbat town (District Kech), four students who the members of a death squad abducted were named Akber, son of Aslam, Ghulam Jan, son of Saleh Muhammad, Naeem, son of Rahmat and Shafi, son of Dildar. They are the residents of Shahrak village.

The paramilitary force FC fired on a vehicle and killed Sibkatullah, son of Ilyas, in the Parom area of Panjgur district.

Three missing persons have been released after several months of disappearances. They were identified as Qadir Kanwal, a teacher and a social reforms campaigner, Irfan Zehri, a social activist, and Bilal Jattak, residents of tehsil Zehri Khuzdar District, Balochistan.

Two brothers, Musaddiq and Abdul Aziz, sons of Muhammad Asa, went missing from Gwadar District of Balochistan. Their relatives blame the security forces for their disappearances.

In another incident, Shah Murad, son of Shakar of Sangabad village of district Kech, was off-loaded from a Quetta-bound bus by the members of a death squad affiliated with the army. The security forces did not disclose his whereabouts. 

Two persons, Ziaullah, son of Babu Noorullah and Din Muhammad, son of Muhammad Ishaq, have been abducted by the members of a death squad operating in the area.

The mutilated bodies of two victims of enforced disappearances have been identified as Abdul Wahid and Muhammad Iqbal, son of Muhammad Yaqoob of district Khuzdar. They have been under unannounced custody of security forces since 2021.

Gulzeb, son of Ibrahim of Killi Shabo(Quetta), went missing, and his relatives believe that the security forces picked him up. While on March 23, another man Akhtar s/o Afzal was arrested and moved to an unknown location in the Wadh area of Khuzdar district.

The death squad members picked up Ghani s/o Lashkari from the Panjgur district.

Two persons named Wasim Ahmad, son of Salim and Muhammad, son of Ghaffar, went missing from the Gobord area of Mand, Kech district.

Kamalan, son of Muhim Jan of Tagran, Kech district, kidnapped by the security forces and missing from August 26, 2021, is now claimed by the counter-terrorism department as being held on terrorism charges in Mach area Bolan district. 

In the same manner, two persons, Ahmad, son of Delwash and Hafiz, son of Delwash residents of Aapsar, Kech district, were picked up by unknown persons believed to be members of a death squad on December 24, 2021, and became missing since then were formally declared arrested by the counter-terrorism department in the Naseerabad district of Balochistan.

Security forces killed three persons in the Nag area of Washuk district of Balochistan on Saturday. The deceased were named Awaz, son of Imam Bakhsh, Ilyas, son of Bashir and Akber, son of Dosta.

Security forces killed Sekindar, son of Chairman Dost Muhammad, a Gomazi, Kech district resident, on the same day.

An unidentified mutilated body was recovered from the Hazar Ganji area of Quetta district. Unidentified mutilated bodies are generally believed to be the missing persons abducted by the death squads.

April 6, 2022

The death squad members picked up three persons named Nabi Bakhsh, son of Bahram; Rostum, son of Karim; Raziq, son of Barkat; and Shahdad, son of Murad Ali. Their whereabouts are unknown.

Dr Jameel Baloch, an MPhil scholar at the FPV university Malaysia, became the latest victim of enforced disappearances when he was picked up by the security forces from the Barkhan district of Balochistan.

A father was killed along with his son by the security forces during a raid on his house in the Kandari area of the Awaran district named Answer alias Haibethan.

Iqbal and Azeem belonging to the Kilkoar area of Kech district, went missing when the security agencies picked them up during a raid. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

Gulzar, son of Abdul Gafoor, was abducted from his home in the Khuzdar district by the death squad members operating in the area.

April 13, 2022

Lala Arshad, son of Muhammad Hussain of Lyari Karachi, became the victim of enforced disappearances. He is believed to be affiliated with the Baloch national struggle.

Six persons from the Gomazi village of Kech district abducted by the death squad affiliated with security forces were named Mahboob, son of Sheran, Shoab, son of Muhammad, Wajo, son of Wahid, Farid, son of Yunus, Mubarak, son of Dilmurad and Akber.

In a gruesome act, the security forces put sands in the radiators of nearly two hundred vehicles carrying fuel from a frontier region. The drivers and passengers walked without water a long distance in the desert and desolate area before reaching the Nokundi town. As a result, many suffered from thirst, hunger, and heat strokes.

April 14, 2022

Security forces opened fire in Chagai on demonstrators protesting the security forces’ action when they disabled nearly 200 vehicles in a desolate area of the Chagai district. As a result, one person, Hamidullah, was killed, and several others received bullet injuries. 

April 15, 2022

Three dead bodies of the drivers forced to walk in the desert on April 13 in the Chagai district were recovered. They died of thirst and heat strokes.

From a Quetta-bound Bus, security forces picked up Salem, son of Karim Bakhsh, a Gaddagi (Balgatar) resident of Panjgur district. However, his family has not been informed of his whereabouts.

After a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) raid on a house in Hub Chowki, the missing person was named Safi, son of Master Abdul Razzaq, resident of Vashbud, Panjgur district of Balochistan.

Unidentified shooters gunned down a footballer, Dad Jan, son of Inayat, in Panjgur district. His relatives blame the security forces affiliated death squad for his murder.

April 22, 2022

The mutilated and bullet-ridden dead body of Zubair s/o Ismail, resident of Sirinkan, Kech district, has been recovered from the Turbat area of the community. He is believed to be abducted by the army-affiliated death squad in the area.

Security forces raided the house of the missing person Rashid Hussain and picked up his father, brother-in-law and his teenage nephew. They are being kept incommunicado.

April 23, 2022

An unidentified dead body has been recovered in a desolate area of Toak, Kalat district. Such bodies are believed to be of the missing persons.

A farmer, Sona Khan Bremani of Dhadar district, went missing along with his brother. He is believed to be picked up by the security forces.

April 24, 2022

Three persons from Kech district, namely Naseem, son of Lal Bakhsh, Majid, son of Lal Bakhsh and Doulat, son of Muhammad Ali, went missing after security forces accompanied by the death squad personnel picked them up from Askani Bazar Turbat.

Reports of harassment of pilgrims going to the holy place of Noor ay Pak in Turbat, Kech district, have been reported by local people. In one such incident, security forces stopped a Caravan of pilgrims near the Dandar area of the district. Men were humiliated in front of their women and children. They were detained for hours before allowing them to continue their journey.

April 26, 2022

Waseem, son of Baba Shoukat from the Gobord (Mand) area of Kech district, went missing after security forces picked him up at the Dokoap checkpoint.

April 27, 2022

The security forces from Karachi picked up Dr Dildar Baloch, a consultant medical doctor from the Kech district (Balochistan). However, his family members were not informed about his whereabouts. Dr Dildar is the organizer of the Baloch Doctor’s Forum. Dr Dildar was released after strong protests from the doctor’s community and political parties.

Unknown armed men in civilian clothes picked up a Baloch student named Beebagr, son of Imdad of Kech district, from Punjab University at Lahore.

Frontier Corps soldiers picked up the whole family of Abdul Khaliq from the Gichk area of Panjgur district and kept them incommunicado for two months. They were released on June 1, 2022, after Balochistan High Court took the suo motonotice of the case.

April 28, 2022

Security forces raided a meeting of female students from Balochistan at the Ghazi University (Southern Punjab). The students were beaten up, and the meeting was dispersed. Later eight students from Balochistan were rusticated by the university authorities.

The Islamabad High Court ordered the provincial authorities in Punjab to stop ethnic profiling of the Baloch students studying in various universities in Punjab.

Security forces abducted Saeed, son of Muhammad Omar, a Dasht, Kech district resident, from Malir (Karachi). His whereabouts are still unknown.

Najeeb, son of Rasheed, a resident of the Buleda area of district Kech (Balochistan), became the victim of enforced disappearances when security forces picked him up in the Gulshan Iqbal area of Karachi. He is an M.Phil. scholar and a teacher at the University of Karachi.

Security forces also picked up another student from the Nal area of Balochistan in a Karachi raid. The student was named Shoab, son of Azum

Two unidentified mutilated bodies were recovered from the Bubertak area of Kohlu district. Such bodies are believed to be of missing persons.

As part of the crackdown on the Baloch students, the security forces abducted Ali, son of Bakhshi and Asghar, son of Issa, from the Maripur area of Karachi.

Sajid Ilahi, a student from the Mastung district, became the victim of enforced disappearances when the security forces picked him up on Wednesday.

The security forces released Ghani, son of Lashkari from the Panjgur district, who went missing in March this year.

Local death squad members abducted social activist Irfan Bangulzai from the Mastung district.

The dead body of Imam Bakhsh, son of Kaloo Khan Abdo, with torture signs, was found in Sindh. He was arrested by the security personnel in April this year.

Unknown assailants killed Saeed Ahmad, an activist of the Balochistan National Party, in Quetta. The party blamed security agencies for the incident. 

May 11, 2022

Waheed Baloch, a resident of Lyari in Karachi, went “missing” when security forces accompanied by unidentified persons in civilian dresses picked him up from his residence.

Unidentified assailants targeted Balochistan National Party leader Nadeem Ahmad Badini in Faridabad, Sohbatpur district. Such incidents are believed to be the work of the army’s death squads.

Security personnel in plain clothes abducted a Rawalpindi University student Feroz, son of Noor Bakhsh. Feroz Baloch belonged to Apsar, district Kech, Balochistan.

Sayad Muhammad Mari, an elderly resident of the Harnai district of Balochistan, went missing after security forces picked him up in Dukki town. His teenage son was also abducted. Their whereabouts are still unknown.

Four mutilated and unidentifiable dead bodies were recovered in the Dasht area of Quetta district. Such bodies are believed to be of missing persons.

Security forces abducted Fazal, son of Muhammad Ali, from Bedrang village of District Kech.

Unidentified persons in civilian clothes picked up Sohail Ahmad, son of Muhammad Hayat, from the Malir area of Karachi. He is believed to be affiliated with the Baloch national resistance.

Abdul Rashid, a footballer from the Lyari area of Karachi, has been picked up by the security forces from his home. He is believed to be affiliated with the Baloch national resistance. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Security forces abducted Mullah Munir, son of Hamza, from Karachi. He is a sympathizer of Baloch national resistance.

Five persons who became the victims of enforced disappearances were Israr Anwar, Nawas Ali Nasir, Adil Imam Bakhsh, Ali Bakhshi and Zahid Jan Muhammad. They were picked up from Karachi. Their whereabouts are still unknown.

Military gunship helicopters damaged a pilgrim site during their combing operation in the Kech district.

Unidentified armed persons believed to be from the security forces picked up a student Karim Jan, son of Fazal, from Turbat Kech district.

The security forces picked up Khuda Bakhsh, son of Ali Khan; Ali Khan, son of Khuda Bakhsh; Qadir, son of Khuda Bakhsh; Sanaullah, son of Hasan; Shabir, son of Sanaullah and Hasan, son of Sanaullah from the Mashkay are of Awaran district. However, their whereabouts are not yet known.

On the same day,   security forces also picked up Dost Muhammad, son of Khuda Bakhsh Mari and Muhammad Ismail, son of Karim Khan Mari, from the Kahan area of Kohlu district.

The names of the missing students abducted by the security forces on June 4, 2022, from Moosa Colony Quetta are Shahzad, son of Khuda Bakhsh; Atiq, son of Beebagr; and Ahmad, son of Bahadur. They belonged to Balochistan’s Kalat, Kharan and Khuzdar districts.

Members of a death squad affiliated with security forces picked up a levy’s sepoy Babjan near his police station in Washboad, Panjgur district. 

June 7, 2022

Security forces picked up Kalimullah Noor, a postgraduate student in the sociology department of Karachi University, from the Joharabad area of Karachi. Kalimullah belongs to the Tump town of Kech district.

On the same day, security forces picked up two Baloch students at Karachi University by the security forces in Karachi. Their names are Doda Ilahi and Ghamshad Ghani. They were kept incommunicado for a week, tortured and released on June 13, after widespread protests.

June 9, 2022

Noor Bakhsh, son of Habib Baloch of Raees Gout, Karachi, was picked up by the security forces from his home.

A local death squad abducted Gous Muhammad, son of Gusher, Wali, son of Alam Jan and Kamisa, son of Sowali, from the Mashkey area of Awaran district.

June 10, 2022

Arif Abdul Qadir, a Quetta resident, detained by the security forces in 2019, was tortured to death in the Karachi Central Jail. He was accused of involvement in the attack on the Chinese Consulate in 2018.

Security forces picked up Hafiz, son of Bashir Ahmad, from his home in Absar, Kech district. His whereabouts are still unknown,

The mutilated dead body of Yasin Bugti was found in the eastern bypass area of Quetta. The security forces picked him up on January 19, 2016, from Nashonas colony, Quetta. He was registered in the list of missing persons presented in the national assembly of Pakistan.

A local death squad picked up two brothers, Irshad and Sharafat, from their home in Issai village of Panjgur. They are still missing.

June 12, 2022

Saqib Zehri, a Khuzdar Engineering University postgraduate student, became the victim of enforced disappearances.

Unidentified members of a death squad abducted Azum, son of Nabi Bakhsh, Nader, son of Rahim Bakhsh and Muslim, son of Hamid, and Amin, son of Ahmad, from the Sibdan area of Kec district.

June 14, 2022

Security forces handed over Ahmad’s son Amin’s tortured and mutilated body, son of Ahmad. The death squad members abducted him on June 12, 2022, from village Sidbdan, district Kech.

June 21, 2022

The mutilated and tortured dead body of Hassan, son of Hashim, has been discovered near Absar village of Kech district. He was missing for some days.

June 23, 2022

Security forces accompanied by members of the local death squad abducted Khalil, son of Jalil and Jeehand, son of Khalil from Gwadar. The bullet-ridden dead body of Junaid, son of Allah Bakhsh, was recovered on June 25, 2022. The whereabouts of Khalil, a Turbat University student, are still unknown.

The relatives of the Baloch missing persons are examining the reports of unidentified dead bodies found in various areas of Lahore. According to reports in Pakistani media, 55 bodies appear to be from outside Punjab. Therefore, there is fear that these bodies might be of the Baloch missing persons. If the reports are confirmed, this will be the second-largest number of mutilated bodies of the Baloch missing persons after discovering mass graves in the Khuzdar district in 2012.
