The enforced disappearances of Baloch political activists and human rights defenders in Pakistan continues unabated amidst the failure of the state’ judicial system to offer any remedy.
Three Baloch students abducted on Thursday outside the lawful process by the security forces from different locations. According to the relatives and friends of the victims who have shared the news of the victims’ abductions on Twitter, students named Nasir Azeem and his cousin Rahmdil both Mphil students were whisked away from Gulshan-e-Iqbal in Karachi, Pakistan.
While another student named Altaf Naseer Baloch was forced disappeared from outside the Islamia University Bahawalpur where he was studying an undergraduate degree.
The enforced disappearances of Baloch political and human rights activists picked up pace from the beginning of this century. The Baloch human rights activists have urged the concerned international bodies to intervene in this matter and to press Pakistan to end the enforced disappearances and other sorts of human rights violations against the Baloch people in Pakistan.
Enforced disappearances is not criminalized under the criminal code of Pakistan therefore encouraging a culture of impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators of human rights violations, and despite its pledge to ratify certain human rights treaties since 2008, Pakistan has not ratified to the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
